The season appeared over for the St. Thomas Aquinas football as it trailed 28-10 in the third quarter of Friday's Division IV football game against Hanover.The winner would earn the fourth-and-final berth in next week's tournament, while the season would be over for the loser.

St. Thomas (6-3) will face top-seeded Plymouth (7-0) next week in a Division IV semifinal. Plymouth is scheduled to end its regular season today against John Stark, but has already clinched the No. 1 seed.(ugg boots sale)

"For the first time all year, we have a familiar opponent and we know a little about them," Cumba said. "Both teams are going to come ready to play. It's a great feeling to get this win tonight and the kids played hard. We'll be ready (next week)."

"The defense came up big there," Cumba said. "We stopped them in the backfield. It was just a sea of white jerseys."
Cumba said he was surprised with Hanover's decision to go for it.
"They made a big decision to go for it, and if they get it, the game is over," Cumba said. "I am surprised (they went for it), but at the sametime, we had been rolling offensively and I can see why they did it."
Monette rushed for 158 yards on 22 carries. His first touchdown was a 21-yard run, cutting the lead to 28-16 with Hanover 8:30 left in the third. St. Thomas was unsuccessful at the 2-point conversion. Middleton 28-19 then kicked a 38-yard field goal late in the third, cutting the deficit to.
"We kept preaching at halftime when we were down 11 points that we could not score all 11 points on one play," Cumba said. "We had to keep getting after them and keep playing hard and the score would take care of itself, and we put ourselves in a situation to win the game at the end."
Monette scored on a 39-yard run in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 28-26.
St. Thomas freshman quarterback Trevor Martin rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown while completing 5-of-8 passes for 79 yards.
